Our school council is made up of one boy and one girl from each Year group from Year 1 to Year 6. We meet once a week with Mrs Young, the St Benet’s school council staff representative, and we are responsible for collecting the House points from each class. We organise the rewards for the termly and annual winners of the House Point competition. We discuss ideas to help improve our school and fundraise for those less fortunate than ourselves.
Together, we act as the pupil voice in school. Last academic year, projects included:
- Devising a ‘Careers Questionnaire’ to ask visitors to the school about any prospective careers we might want to do when we are older (October 2019)
- Chosen the titles for the Friends of St Benet’s Film Night (November 2019)
- Organising a school council ‘Bake Off’ competition to raise funds for a Cow in a developing Country (December 2019)
- Preparing a collective worship for Holocaust Memorial Day (January 2020)
We also act as a voice for the pupils in the school and address issues that are important to the children, bringing them to the attention of staff as well as suggesting their own solutions. For any pupils reading this, if you have anything that you would like us to discuss at a meeting, please get in touch with us.
Thank you,
Your School Council 2020-2021
