Children are significantly involved in their own target setting and in discussions concerning their worries and needs. At St Benet’s we believe that children should be at the heart of any decision making process, therefore in any subject ALL children are involved in setting targets related to age related expectations and their personal, social, emotional needs. This also includes setting targets for those who require additional support through an SEND support plan/ SEND review.
SEND Support Plans/Review and Children’s Input
An SEND support plan/review is an individualised programme of targets set each term outlining small, achievable steps for children to lead them to successful outcomes by building confidence and self-esteem. These targets are either social or academic, depending on need. If specialist agencies are involved with these children, they will also offer contributions to this target setting as we welcome their input and expertise.
When deciding on suitable targets for the child’s SEND support plan, the parents will attend a meeting with their child’s teacher to discuss their individual needs. Teachers, parents and children are all invited to sign this support plan to symbolise that all parties are working together with the child’s interest at the core.
