Our School Choir consists of 30 children in Years 5/6. We have a weekly Choir who practise on a Monday lunchtime.
We have been involved in many events over the years. These are as follows:

– INTU Metrocentre Choir Competition (December 2016)
. Carol singing at Beamish Museum
. Recording our own CDs in a Recording Studio (children gain a great sense of achievement)
. Choir Concerts with the Outreach Project at Durham Cathedral (collaborating with other Primary schools)
. Singing at our local Residential Homes (developing community links helps the children share their enjoyment of singing, something that we always strive for)
. Singing at a wedding and Masses of Celebration, both in schools and at our Parish Church of St. Joseph’s RC in Birtley.
. Singing at the Metro Centre in aid of the charity Barnados.
. Singing at the Gala Theatre in connection with Environment issues.
Recent Singing Success
Our School Choir recently sang in the INTU School Choir Competition in December 2016 at the Metro Centre. They made it to the final and out of all schools who entered, they came third! They won a £150 INTU voucher to spend and chose to go back to the Metro Centre to the Odeon cinema to see SING! Well done St Benet’s Choir!
The Benefits of Our Choir
Our School Choir is very popular and successful. Being part of the Choir allows us to bring the children together in a fun, disciplined and energetic way. It allows the children to express their thoughts and feelings through music. From my experience, singing is a great way to boost self esteem and gain confidence. Sharing our songs together helps us to bond as a group that provides a ‘fun
and uplifting experience’ which creates moments to enjoy immediately and memories that will last forever.

Final Words
I am immensely proud of our school choir and the achievements we have gained through determination, commitment and togetherness. I will continue to support and encourage the children in the years to come.
